Hello and welcome! This blog is meant to support the philosophy here at Love Don’t Play Mental Health Counseling, PLLC. This is the name of the private mental health counseling practice owned and operated by me, Gregory Longmore, LMHC. Based in Brooklyn, NY, I have been providing services at different venues for about 11 years. In this time, I’ve become a Christian Mental Health therapist. This is not meant to represent the ‘googlable’ definition of the term, as there is an expressed difference between Christian Counselors and Biblical counselors, but rather, I am independently a Counselor who is happy to share biblical wisdom from a Christian perspective.
Love Don’t Play
The name of the practice refers to two things. The first is the strength of God’s Love towards all of us, and his willingness to display it openly towards those willing to accept it likewise, publicly. As far as the strength, the name refers to the base idea of the practice that Love is Power. As a believer, have you ever known for yourself that a person is beloved by God and therefore that the protective power of God is on display? In these cases, have you been able to witness the bi-directional display of affection between the subject and the Almighty God? God protects his people even when it doesn’t look this way to the human eye, but when certain things come to pass are you able to clearly say that God is the victor of every struggle?
The second is in the vernacular: Full disclosure, I’m saying this as a Black man. This practice seeks to reveal the strength of God’s love to those of us who may feel forgotten. I personally remember for myself, that I would say this exact phrase in my mind when I was able to witness God being active in my life in such a way that expressed the power of his love. I want to be clear that I believe his love is exactly the same for everyone as I quote this verse: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost – 1 Corinthians 4:3 (KJV). This means to me that as God reveals himself to whom he pleases, I believe he does this to create messengers to express this on his behalf to further his Kingdom in a way which we cannot understand.
In other words, I am on the same journey we all are and in my case, I believe I am here to share what I’ve learned from my personal trials as others share with me what they’ve learned from theirs. I believe there is an inherent beauty in this, and I am inviting any and everyone who is interested to come along as we learn, together!
